Good Game for a Good Cause – GG.Me!

5 min read,

Videogames are perhaps the greatest thing ever. I did the research, trust me. But one thing better than playing videogames is doing it to help other people. It’s what makes us gamers feel the best. After all, it’s good to do good, and it’s great to do so while doing what you love. That’s precisely why I’m extremely pleased to present GG.Me – Southeastern Europe’s largest charity gaming tournament!

Set in Zagreb on the 19th of March, this tournament will bring together the leading tech firms and startups from the entire region in a competition that will decide the regional champion in Counter Strike:Global Offensive. The greatest part is that all proceeds will go towards acquiring gaming consoles for children’s hospitals and wards in Croatia, and if that’s not amazing, I don’t know what is.

Competition sparks progress

You see, competition in the tech world is nothing new. But you’d be surprised that competition between tech companies in videogames is also nothing new. The greatest companies in the world such as Google and Facebook have been doing it for years, and the competitive spirit that drives innovation inside of these companies is put to good use at competitions in games such as Counter Strike, where teams from different companies can face each other for a good cause, and also bragging rights. There’s no small thing if you say you are better than Google at Counter Strike, right?

That’s exactly the thought that has driven the team behind GG.Me to create this tournament. Being passionate gamers themselves, the team sought to create a new platform for networking, while also helping the children that are unfortunately forced to spend time in hospitals.

We all know that hospitals aren’t the most cheerful of places, so any help in breaking that stereotype is very much appreciated. Soon after the tournament is over, the team will donate PlayStation 4 consoles and accompanying equipment to children’s hospitals. Even though the exact number of consoles is still unknown, the organizers will do their best to donate as many consoles as possible, and put smiles on as many kids’ faces as possible.

The 1st Of Its Kind

Good Game is the first tournament of its type in Southeastern Europe, and it will gather big names in the regional tech industry, such as Rimac Automobili, Bellabeat, Infinum, Nanobit and many others. There will be 16 teams all selected from the staff of the regional tech firms and startups. Of course, only one team will bring home the title, but all of them will be helping children by taking part in the competition.

The selected venue for this amazing event is Hub385 in Zagreb, Croatia. Newly opened, the venue already hosted some formidable events, such as Porin nominations (the most prestigious music award in Croatia) and Ladies of New Business, an amazing event dedicated to the women in tech industry, where our own Nataša Đukanović took part as a speaker!

The Game of Choice

The game that we will see teams from tech companies compete in is Counter Strike: Global offensive. One of the most successful games ever, it has situated itself at the throne of eSports titles, a place it holds for 4 years now. The game pits two teams of 5 players against one another, in a fight to either plant or defuse a bomb, or eliminate the opposing team. A wonderful demonstration of the “easy to know, difficult to master” idea, CS:GO has earned the top teams over 4 million dollars in prize money.

Even though Good Game isn’t about money, it certainly is about the look and feel of a real, big gaming tournament. Visitors will be able to enjoy DJ’s, comedians, multiple videogame consoles, an entire room dedicated to virtual reality solutions such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, and a showcase of the finest gaming computers currently available. Every geek should definitely feel at home at this tournament, and every visitor will surely feel like a geek once they experience it. The event is invite-only, but everyone who wishes to watch the matches will, of course, be able to do so on the official Twitch channel of the tournament, and share their thoughts in the comments section.

GG…Me!

Of course, all great ideas need a great home. That’s where .Me comes into play, showcasing some of the values we hold most dear: personalization, fun, and open-mindedness, which makes it a perfect fit. That’s what this tournament is all about, and that’s why it is GG.Me.

We are proud to be a part of this wonderful project and are looking forward to more similar projects that will both popularize gaming, and help people in need. .Me domain will always support those who wish to help others, and we’re proud to be the sponsors of this great event. For news about the tournament, visit GG.Me!
