Denys Mishunov – Developer and the King of Creativity

5 min read,

It would be unfair to speak about Denys Mishunov just as a front-end developer. Instead, we’d rather tell a tale of Denys as a creative soul who loves to cycle, share knowledge with others and isn’t shy to speak his mind – which we love btw! But we are bound to begin this story by introducing Denys Mishunov as a front-end developer who’ll inspire you not just to create an awesome website, but to break out of your shell as well. Here we go.

Anyone interested in front-end development in general or UI/UX design would do well to take a look at people like Denys Mishunov. Denys is a Norway-based front-end developer, UX/UI designer, and speaker whose fun and entertaining website invites you to check out his work and get in touch.

Let’s see what he’s all about!

Denys Mishunov: Career Steps

Calling Denys just a coder would be doing him an injustice. According to his own words, he doesn’t just code interfaces, he builds them. After decades of work, Denys has a deep understanding of internal architecture and insight into UX (from advantages to flaws). But, what does this really mean? Well, in a nutshell, Denys knows just the right tools and methods needed to make the sleek interface for the best user-friendly experience.

How about we take a peek into Denys’ background. So, he’s been in web development since 2001 – from being a web designer to a CSS developer to a JavaScript developer. During this time, he dove into all aspects of the front-end technological stack. This included building production-ready projects, performance analysis, testing, and many other duties. No matter the task, he took to it with gusto.

Denys Mishunov is a Norway-based front-end developer, UX/UI designer, and speaker whose fun and engaging website invites you to check out his work and get in touch.

Denys first started working while still attending university in Ukraine (props for productivity!), and has never really stopped. He’s been self-employed for a good chunk of his career and worked on various front-end projects. From phone integrations and mobile theme development to CMS, he didn’t shy away from going through the trenches and building his reputation.

As of 2006, Denys started working for Norwegian companies and has eventually relocated to Norway. He primarily worked as a senior front-end developer and performed tasks stretching from JavaScript applications architecture and CSS/HTML development to performance optimization and user-experience design.

In 2019, Denys started working for GitLab – a San-Francisco-based, fully remote tech company. He’s currently employed full-time as a staff front-end engineer, making sure UX is second to none.

Attitude and Drive

If there’s one thing you can say about Denys, it’s that he is passionate about his work. He’s got the skills, and his portfolio backs him up. But you know what’s impressive? His humbling approach and take on the imposter syndrome he wrote for Smashing Magazine.

Despite his insistence that he speaks only “once in a while,” his library of speaking events paints a slightly different picture. His passion and breadth of experience are evident, as is his desire to spread the knowledge he has. Denys was engaged at many conferences and spoke about a variety of topics. These include the science of design, performance, and debugging.

Denys doesn’t just code interfaces, he builds them.

While the collection of pieces he wrote is not as extensive, it’s equally impressive and reveals a keen mind. Denys has an in-depth knowledge of psychology and how people interact with systems. Of course, that’s not really surprising when you think about it. Psychology is an essential part of designing an interface that a diverse userbase can easily navigate.

As a passionate cyclist, Denys also loves sharing his latest achievements, experiences, and results. Oh, and if you want to reach him, do so on Twitter. 🙂
