The Story of Jay Shetty and Wisdom Going Viral

If you say you haven’t heard about Jay Shetty before, I am not going to believe you. Ok, you might now know the name, but you must have watched, and re-watched, one of his many viral videos on the meaning of life and love.

The so-called Urban Monk and the Forbes 30 Under 30 Class of 2017 , Jay Shetty, is one of the most influential people online, with over 4 billion views and over 25 million followers globally.

A series of childhood events, from being bullied at school and rebelling against the system by acting out, to losing two of his best friends at a young age, lead Jay to question the world we live in and pursue a deeper meaning of life.

“The biggest room in the world is the room for self-improvement.”

Jay Shetty

However, it is not before he met a monk at 18 that he started thinking about redefining what success means for his and choosing a life service. He went on to graduate in Behavioral Science from Cass Business School with honors at just 22, just to leave it all behind for living as a monk. Travelling across Europe and India, he spent three years putting both his body and mind to the test, pursuing personal growth and helping others.

Jay Shetty used his knowledge of digital media to make his wisdom accessible to millions of people across the world.

Finding Meaning in the Modern World

“Don’t carry your mistakes around with you. Instead, place them under your feet and use them as stepping stones.”

Jay Shetty

Once he returned to his hometown of London, Jay faced the challenge of picking up the pace of the world and finding his space. At the same time, his business school friends began inviting him to speak at their companies and share the experience, knowledge, and insights on productivity, success, and happiness he gained as a monk. He proved to be the right person to provide the help they needed to cope with the pressure and stress they underwent at the workplace.

It was clear to Jay that the world was going more and more digital so he joined Accenture and worked on building their digital division. By finding out more about the forces that shape the digital landscape, he saw an opportunity to scale up the impact he was making. He went all ninja (or monk, or ninja-monk?), leveraged all he learned about the digital tools and techniques and started his Facebook page in 2016 with a mission to make a difference.

The content Jay started creating had the ultimate goal of sharing knowledge at the rate modern users want entertainment. His appealing personality, calming but strong voice, and profound modern-day wisdom gained traction almost immediately.

“What we need to recognize is that the things that we truly want, the things that are deeply meaningful, the things that are genuinely fulfilling, all require patience. They all require work. They all require energy.”

Jay Shetty

Being a storyteller at heart, turning a message into an inspiring video came naturally to Jay and his videos were noticed by Arianna Huffington who invited him to be the Host of HuffPost Lifestyle in New York. In his HuffPost Live show called #FollowTheReader, he got the chance to interview people like Tim Ferris, Deepak Chopra, Gabby Bernstein, Simon Sinek, Russel Brand, and the likes. The daily segment reached one million people daily!

After the fantastic success of his series becoming HuffPost’s all-time most viewed show, Jay Shetty founded his own viral video agency and started building up his brand. Because he managed to win over the hearts of millions of engaged and interactive users, brands like Snapchat, Facebook, National Geographic, Nasdaq, and HuffPost partnered up with Jay to create video content, sponsored shows, web series, and posts to promote and share their products and services he believes can help his followers. Also, Jay’s On Purpose podcast is the #1 health podcast in the world today.

A Central Location for One’s Brand

As great fans of Jay’s work, you could probably imagine how excited we were when we found out that he choose a .ME domain to build his personal website on!

“Your identity should be made by what you think you should be.”

Jay Shettty

His website is a great example of how you can gather different ventures and aspects of your personality around one key idea, value and brand. It serves as a central point from which people can find out about different projects he is involved in, and the way to reach him.

His website visitors can easily go to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and back again. Since Jay produces and shares content daily, having a centralized platform makes it easier to bring all his channels into a single location. Also, his website showcases a clear CTA (Join his Messenger Community) and it’s very easy for a user to take action.
