Marc Pitart i Casanova From cvonline.me: Online CV’s Help You Stand Out

Everyone needs a good CV. It’s one of those things you actively aim to improve because it’s the first thing that connects you to the job you’re after. There’s absolutely no doubt that even if you do get a job without presenting a CV, you’ll need it somewhere in the future. It’s your business life on paper, and it should be the best it can be.
Still, there’s a lot of CV’s today that simply aren’t good and don’t present their owners in the light they really should. There’s a lot of tools that seek to make your CV better, by simply making it online, and one of the great tools for the job is cvonline.me, a site that helps you create the CV you’ve always wanted.
Not to boggle you down with numerous information, we sat down with Marc Pitart i Casanova to discuss CV’s, the site and many more interesting topics. Of course, the first thing we asked Marc was to present cvonline.me to us and tell us what it offers.
Cvonline is a free online CV builder and tool that allows users from all over the world to create amazing online CVs that are sure to stand out on all kinds of job applications.
By creating an online CV in our platform, the user will receive a unique URL & QR code that directs recruiters to the candidate’s personalized CV at any time. Recruiters will be able to contact the user or download the CV in a PDF or Word format.
Being a pretty straightforward tool, CVonline.Me allows you to simply go ahead and fill out your CV with viable information about yourself. The good thing here is that the CV then stays online so that when you want to send your CV to potential employers, you can simply send them a link from which they can learn all about you.
That, of course, brings us to the next part of our journey. We wanted to know the process behind the making of a good CV on cvonline.me and Marc described that it’s extremely easy, something that’s always a big plus. After completing some basic steps in the signup form, where you introduce your general contact information, work experience, education and languages along with the CV website sharing details such as the URL, you’re good to go.
Next, you’ll be able to personalize your CV from more than 25 templates and designs, add new sections that include your skills, recommendations, cover letter, video presentations, availability and more.
Making a nice looking CV takes less than an hour, and it stays with you for as long as you want, so it’s definitely time well spent. The next thing we asked Marc was indeed something we were curious about, and that is what actually sets online CV’s apart from the regular ones?
When you apply for a job, the most important thing is that you meet all the requirements of the job description and that you have all the skills and preparation that the job requires. However, that isn’t always enough. Meeting all the requirements doesn’t guarantee an interview. How many times have you applied for a job position and you never even got an interview? Well, here is where the CV Format is taken into consideration. HR experts agree that CV’s with unique formatting stand out over the others in a first selection step of the recruiting process. This is where an online CV can help set you apart from the other candidates.
So basically, if you want to stand out as a great candidate in real life, your CV should definitely stand out too. That way any potential recruiter has a unique CV in his hands, something he perhaps doesn’t see too often and is intrigued. We all know how little things can turn the tide of job seeking, and you should definitely aim to be as good as you can in all fields, be that your cover letter or your online CV.
To take a break from all the CV business, we asked Marc about his motivation, more specifically what made him start a CV-making site. We wanted to know what is it that nudged him to start a business and help people in the way cvonline does.
We started the site, because of our own personal experience. Everything began when two friends were looking for a new job and they were having some trouble getting interviews.
Our CEO helped them by creating an online CV by using plain HTML & CSS. They also printed business cards with the QR code that led to their online CV. They both started getting interviews and ultimately got hired.
To get to where they are now wasn’t easy, of course. We wanted to know what were the biggest problems they faced while developing the service, and how did they overcome them.
After realising our Beta Version in January 2016, we’ve been trying to reach out to as many job seekers as possible, through blogpost hosting, good rankings on search engines, social media, etc. All of these aspects have been harder than we first anticipated, but little by little we have helped more than 1500 active candidates that have used our tool to apply for jobs.
The real question looming over everyone’s heads by now is definitely how much of a role does a CV actually play in the process of hiring a person. We all know it’s important, but just how important it is in this day and age. There are more and more people that don’t rely on CV’s to share their information with potential clients and that seems to work fine for them, but the question we asked Marc was whether do people with better -made CV’s get jobs faster, and how important it is to have a good online CV.
The CV is an essential part of hiring someone since it is the first connection between the recruiter and the candidate. The CV formatting is important in order to attract recruiters and make the reading and comprehension of the CV easy. The content of the CV is also important as it displays the candidate’s capabilities and strengths. It’s essential that the candidate be able to fully express their abilities through the CV content.
Our users’ experience, so far, shows that having a better-made CV has helped them to get a job faster in the sense that it helped them stand out in the first step of the recruiting process (the CV filtering), and so they got more interviews, leading to more chances for job opportunities and success.
The latest trend in hiring and overall presentation of one’s self online are, of course, personal websites. The rising trends in personal websites allow you to incorporate your CV on your personal website if your goal is to get hired, something Marc agrees with us. He also notes that adding your CV to your personal website can definitely help you increase your chance of success.
Coming to the most interesting part of our interview, we asked Marc what does cvonline plan in the future, and he did share some really interesting plans for the company. He said that they are currently working on an overhaul of their tool that will include new features such as a multi CV version of the tool, new CV sections, custom domains, new templates and much more. We are very pleased to have Marc share this information with us, and we will certainly be more than glad to check out all of the new features once they are up and running.
The last question we ask all of the people we interview is of course, why did they choose .ME as their domain. He said that they wanted something easy to remember and catchy and that after some thinking came up with .ME as their perfect domain!
We wanted something catchy, very easy to remember for the users. Of course, the fact that search engines treat .ME domains as the traditional Top-Level Domain extensions helped us make the final decision.
