Despite the continuous rise of the IT sector, meeting an excellent programmer is still pretty challenging. They are like unicorns. Why is this so?

Because there is so much more to making a good programmer than exceptional coding skills

A good programmer also shows impressive communication skills, passion for their work, and the willingness to continuously improve their skills.

Guess what?

We have just met a guy that has it all! His name is Vasco Ramos (, and he is a CS student who has a very promising career ahead of him.

Who Is Vasco Ramos?

Vasco Ramos is a 22-year-old student from Portugal. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering at the prestigious University of Aveiro. He is currently taking his Master’s Degree in the same field at the University of Minho, located in Braga, Portugal.

Remarkable Achievements of this CS Student in the Field of Programming

Even though Vasco is still at the very beginning of his career, he has already started building a name for himself in this field.

One of his most crowning achievements so far is his participation in the Think Twice hackathon. Vasco and his team won it in 2019, which is a big deal considering the rising number of participants.

Despite the continuous rise of the IT sector, meeting an excellent programmer is still challenging. They are like unicorns.

Think Twice is a hackathon-style programming competition held at the University of Aveiro. The project is organized by university professors and partner IT companies. What is particularly intriguing, is that each team has 40 hours to solve a series of programming challenges. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

From CS Student to The Leader of Tomorrow

“The future needs passionate, happy, and confident, young leaders, willing to challenge the status quo and stand up for their convictions,” Richard Branson once said.

Vasco’s example proves that the learning mindset and persistence always pay off. From the very beginning, this inspiring young guy has worked hard on pushing himself to the next level, both personally and professionally.

Vasco emphasizes that he has always strived to enrich his academic path with other extracurricular activities, such as volunteer work within his university.

Personal Growth for this CS Student through the Participation in Non-Profit Organizations

Vasco emphasizes that he has always strived to enrich his academic path with other extracurricular activities, such as volunteer work within his university.

Since his second year of studies, Vasco has been a part of ATTUA, a non-profit youth association that promotes various diverse activities for students, teachers, and employees at the DETI department.

As a member of the organization, Vasco had a chance to organize various activities, such as workshops and trips to job fairs. It provided him with an invaluable opportunity to network with other students and professionals within the same industry, as well as develop his social skills.

CS Student Mentoring First-Year Students

Vasco mentored 20 first-year students at the University of Aveiro from 2018 to 2020.

The University’s mission is to help new students achieve academic success through the personalized support of peers and teachers. The program includes various activities, including lectures, workshops, and other activities that help students develop competencies in many areas and enrich their knowledge.

“I consider this work one of the most important things I did during college because it allowed me to improve my social skills, such as teamwork and people management,” Vasco explained.

The Implementation and Coordination of Multiple Programming Projects of the CS Student

What makes a good software engineer?

Well, most programmers do not code because they want to make money or earn public praise. They do that because they are passionate about the process of programming as a whole. It is fun and, above all, it is an opportunity to deliver value to users. Computer science and software engineering are all about having a knack for innovation.

Vasco Ramos describes himself as a goal-oriented person, always focused on problem-solving.

“My mantra of life is all about hard work and absolute determination.”

His exceptional portfolio proves the same. This 22-year-old has already achieved a lot.

Let’s take a look at some of Vasco’s most important programming projects:

Unifiles is a files/resources repository platform. What sets it apart from similar software solutions is its social networking features. For example, users can comment on and rate posts-resources, as well as interact via the platform.

My Life

You will agree that using multiple apps to stay on top of your physical activity, eating habits, or health conditions can be overwhelming. That is where platforms like My Life, your personal lifestyle monitoring system, enter the scene.

My Life is a multi-platform information system that provides the integrated collection and visualization of clinical data resources, physical activity, and eating habits.

The application was developed by a team of students, managed by Vasco Ramos.

Finding an affordable house or apartment in the vicinity of the university campus can be challenging. Platforms like Domus helpthe process.

This is an online marketplace, designed for college students who are looking for house rentals in Portugal. The goal of the application is logical – it connects house owners and prospective tenants. In addition to advanced search functionalities, the platform also contains a house comparator that eases users’ choices and helps them find the best homes for their needs.

Rest Review

According to TripAdvisor’s survey, the majority of potential diners read restaurant reviews before booking. Such platforms have gained lots of popularity over the past few years.

If you use them to find new restaurants or review them, Rest Review is about to blow your mind. Via this user-friendly platform, you can check, search, and review restaurants. Users can even filter search results and create lists of their favorite places.

Intrusion Tracker

For most business owners, the physical security of their facilities is their utmost priority. If you want to take your company’s protection to the next level, you need an application like Intrusion Tracker

This is an advanced management system that monitors and logs every attempt to access the building. Once it detects any suspicious activity, it takes immediate action. That involves activity reports, statistics, and real-time alerts.

DETI4devs is an annual event organized by the AETTUA organization at the University of Aveiro. Its primary goal is to connect IT engineering students and companies.

Together with his team, Vasco Ramos developed an event management system that supports the DETI4devs event.

Air Quality

Over the past few decades, we have witnessed the dramatic and pretty disturbing rise of air pollution. The pollutants in the air are detrimental to both human health and the environment. That is why tracking air quality has become many people’s obsession.

Fortunately, keeping pace with it is easier than ever thanks to the development of many web and mobile applications. One of them is Air Quality, created by Vasco and his colleagues. The platform allows you to check air quality metrics for a specific date. The app also uses a caching system that simplifies and accelerates search requests.

Pretty impressive, right? To learn more about Vasco’s projects, take a look at his website.

Wrapping Up

Vasco Ramos is a perfect example of a young leader in the IT industry. Even though he pursued a career in an oversaturated industry, he managed to find his place there. Unbothered by the rising competition, he has meticulously built his career step by step.

One of the things that certainly helped this CS student stand out in this fierce jungle is his strong and recognizable online presence. Vasco played his trump card by building an informative personal website, and here at .ME, we could not be happier that he chose us as his online home.

To conclude, we will cite Vasco’s moto:

“Driven by the desire of always being my better self, I choose to be in constant learning and having an open mind.”

Way to go, Vasco! We are looking forward to writing about your future achievements soon!
