TrashOut.Me: Check into Illegal Trash Dumps… and Get Rid of Them!

2 min read,

TrashOut.Me is an environmental project for discovering illegal dumps in your neighborhood and all over the world. It consists of 2 elements; a mobile app which you can get for your iPhone or Android device and a web site with a map of those illegal dump places.

The idea for this environmental startup came from Slovakia where it won a premier Slovak mobile and tablet app competition, but you can use it anywhere in the world. In just a tap on your smartphone, you can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone!

Clean It!

It’s quite simple to start reporting illegal dumps; the first step is to install the mobile app. You can get it from App Store or from Google Play. Reporting is easy, just get to the location of the dump and click the button. All of your reports are then gathered and shown publicly on the TrashMap. If you like collecting points, TrashOut.Me has something for you as well; reports are counted and you get activity badges:

The TrashOut.Me team also works on getting local governments to support this cause, because illegal dumps are a major problem in today’s society. In Slovakia, people reported more than 160 illegal dumps all over the country and those reports were sent to the Ministry of environment and environmental inspection. Talk about crowds, right?

Currently, you can even take a look at statistics of illegal dumps and find out what kind of dumps there are around you and in the world. Currently, household items make up 23.4% of illegal dumps. However, since this is relatively fresh startup, the data isn’t representable. However, if we unite… we could do something for good old Mother Earth.

Trash is Out!

We talked to Tomas Londan, CMO of the project and asked him why he picked out the .ME domain name for this project. Tomas explained the reason:

“Because afterwards, people can say: TRASH is OUT thanks to ME”

So, are you ready to find trash around you and clean up the world? Take your smartphones, download the application and start hunting those nasty places! Hopefully, your local government will also contribute to the cause and clean up the places you’ve discovered!
